Our Story
Where it all began
loxwood Joust
Danny first imagined Loxwood Meadworks at his family’s annual medieval festival in Loxwood, West Sussex in 2018. Years prior to founding Loxwood, Danny sold traditional mead to the festival-goers. The overall response was positive, although most found it too sweet to finish a glass. Danny was inspired to reimagine mead for a new generation, with modern branding and a fresh flavour. And so Loxwood Meadworks was born.
A Shared Dream

In 2019 Danny met Emily, Ritz-trained sommelier, at the mediaeval festival! At the time Emily was working at a local British restaurant. She struggled to find an English wine that could pair with a local cheese selection. The solution came in a chilled glass of honey wine.
Danny and Emily decided to partner up with a shared dream of producing the world’s best honey wine that does good for bees and the local ecosystem.
Where we produce
West Sussex
Our apiary, aka our bee vineyard, is based on Loxwood Meadow, a 30-acre woodland-meadow based in the small village of Loxwood boarding West Sussex and Surrey. This is also where the Loxwood Joust, mediaeval festival, takes place. We then transfer the honey 17 miles down the road to a winery just outside of Guildford where we collaborate with their winemaking team to produce Loxwood Meadworks signature collection.
What is mead?
Mead and honey wine, often used interchangeably, both refer to a drink crafted by fermenting honey and water. Mead can be diverse, offering various styles with additional flavours like fruits, herbs, and spices. On the flip side, honey wine generally implies a beverage primarily made from honey.
Mead is one of the world's oldest beverages, with a rich history that spans across cultures. The term "honeymoon" even originates from the tradition of drinking mead, which was believed to have healing properties and was often referred to as the "drink of the gods."
