As the days draw in and winter settles over the countryside, there’s a joy in returning to the simple comforts of home. Fire lit, tucked under a woollen blankets with something warming in hand.
This mulled honey wine is one of those cozy home joys. A slow, fragrant simmer of Sussex Sunset, lifted with citrus and winter spices, sweetened with a spoonful of local honey. It’s wonderfully simple, soothingly aromatic, and beautifully suited to those moments when the world outside feels a little too cold.

ingredients
Serves two (175ml each)
- 350ml Sussex Sunset Honey Wine
- 3 tsp local honey
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cardamom pods, gently crushed
- 3 cloves
- 1 orange slice
method
- Gently pour the Sussex Sunset into a pan, nestling in the spices and the slice of orange.
- Warm over a low heat, adding the honey gradually and stirring until fully dissolved. (If you prefer a sweeter cup, feel free to add a little more to taste.)
- Bring to at simmer keeping the heat gentle ensures the wine retains its character. Always, leave the spices to infuse for a deeper, fuller flavour.
- Ladle into your favourite mug finish with an extra half-slice of orange if you fancy a little more citrus and enjoy immediately.
